0 Comments Photo: This guest post was submitted by Martin Gommel from the German Blog. Photographing flowers can be one of the hardest things to do. I have deep respect for any photographer who manages to do it well. In these days I am trying different new things and shooting flowers is part of my adventure. To get myself inspired I collected some of the best photographs of flowers that I could find on flickr. I hope that you enjoy these 41 delicious flower photographs as much as I do.
Enjoy and get inspired! Update: don’t forget our posts on the topic of photographing flowers:.

Isn't photography, really about how, what and when you compose a photograph from a camera? True and great photographers don't necessarily photoshop their shots. Even I never do it. Therefore I do not agree with your statement 'but don’t forget to mention “Photoshop”, after all, what’s a flower picture without “Photoshop'.'
Sorry if I sound rude but I don;t mean to.:-). Opustg April 9, 2010 03:32 am I really love photographing flowers but i find that i am slightly limited by my lens not being able to get as close as i would like to my subject. I have a Nikon 18-200, any hints or suggestions on how to get closer? Can i crop my photos and still get high quality pictures? Or should i be looking at lenses at the far ends of the specturum? Wider or more of a zoom lens?
Recently i have been looking for a wider lens like a 10-24 that nikon has or should i be looking for more of a zoom lens? Philip Snell March 27, 2010 11:44 pm I had A spine fussion 2 years ago and found it hard to get out and about to take photo's like I use to so I got a heap of flower bulbs and seeds and asked the neibours for some cuttings and started my own garden just for photography and it has been one of the best photogrphic subjects I have ever taken an interest in and my kids love playing with the flowers and love having their photos taken with the flowers. So we think flower power rules OK. eimg link='title='DSC1944' url='eimg link='title='DSC1935' url='. Lynn March 26, 2010 03:26 pm I shoot with a Nikon D300 and usually use my 200mm macro (Nikon calls it micro). I almost always use a tripod. The 200mm lens is really too heavy for me to shoot without a tripod.
The lens actually mounts on the tripod rather than the camera body. You can use a good VR lens like my 18-200 and get in fairly close and could get good shots without a tripod. Even if you get a mono-pod, that would help. There are extension tubes and close-up lenses (like a filter) that are less expensive than a macro lens. The rosebud was shot with the 200mm. The dahlia was shot with a 55-200mm, if I remember correctly. Sunny January 31, 2009 11:57 pm I have used the photos in my e mails. If that is ok?
How about I 'paying back 'my 'usage' with few thankful lines. If that is ok.and Thanks Sincerely! - My Sincere Asking of Permission- I have nothing to pay back your beautiful photos, how about I just leave behind my very soul. For your beautiful world's flowers and light I might as well go live inside. So that I can taste deeply each digital sight and to begging your permission day and night for the sun in your field never subside. For such heavenly garden gate open wide! Let me step inside.

I have notified some of the owners of the photos that their license has been violated. You did the right thing to link back but that is only for photos not using the 'ALL RIGHTS RESERVED' CC license. Karo June 7, 2008 08:24 am There are so many fabulous flower photographers on flickr it's a bit befuddling to me why the author of this post simply posted multiple photos from the same few people. They're lovely, of course, but it would be nice to have seen some other photographers and styles showcased among the 41. Just a few examples from my own contact list:. Debbie June 7, 2008 01:25 am Flowers are one of my favorite subjects to photograph (I also enjoy animals and rock formations/faces). You can view my photos at I not only will get down to flower level, I try and use the sun to my advantage as it lights up the inner part(s) of the flower(s). I absolutely love the macro/super macro on the Canon S3IS.it lets you get down to 0' and on many occasions I've ended up with pollen on the lens as I didn't realize I was that close.
Serge June 6, 2008 09:09 am My tips on photographing flowers: 1. Get down on your knees or even flat on the ground; that's where the flowers are.
It's like photographing kids, get down to there level. Take the time to look at them, turn around and around for more point of view and you'll see your shot taking shape.

Find the light! Fill flash is often great to capture more details of these beauties. Watch the background.
Often shooting slightly downwards remove a whole lot of undesired stuff behind. Keeping a very narrow depth of field will also help achiving this. Happy shooting!
